The first Middle Spotted Woodpecker in Sweden since June 25th 1994 when a bird was seen at Herrevadskloster, Ljungbyhed, Skåne.
The bird this winter was found at Lummelundsbruk, Gotland on December 28th by Josef Anderberg, and it was seen again on the 29th when these films was made by Johan Wallin and Magnus Corell.

This bird is the first to be twitched in Denmark. It was found by Thomas W. Johansen on December 13th 2013 at Gram. This film was made by Michael Køie Poulsen on January 4th 2013.

November 13th 2010, a 12-year-old schoolboy and bird enthusiast Tuomas Meriläinen found a strange-looking woodpecker from his home yard. He photographed the bird and showed the pictures to the experts who were able to identify the bird as a Middle Spotted Woodpecker, a new species for Finland. The bird stayed in the area over the winter, until March 28th 2011.
