Mourning Dove

Mourning Dove

Zenaida macroura

This bird was found at Inishboffin Island, County Galway, Ireland on November 2nd. 2007. The bird was seen on location until Novenber 15th and it was filmed by Mícheál Cowming on November 10th.
The bird was a first of Ireland, and it was found by Anthony McGeehan.
It was apparently a 1cy bird, due to some juvenile feathers on it.

On May 4th 2008 it was rediscovered at Greifswalder Oie in Germany, the categorization of it in Germany is unknown.

On May 19th. 2008 Copenhagen-birder Henrik Rask found an odd dove at Skagen, Denmark. This dove was quickly identified as a Mourning Dove. The bird was in the area until May 21st and it was never seen again.
The Danish Rare Bird committee accepted it in category A on the Danish list.

All three records were of the same bird, this was confirmed by thorough studies of photographs. The bird had identical markings on the wing-coverts and tertials.
