Purple Gallinule

Purple Gallinule

Porphyrio martinica

Frederico Morais sayes about the bird

"The bird was discovered by Nuno Ramos on November 7th 2013at Monsanto, Lisbon.
Nuno thought it was a Allen's Gllinule Porphyrio alleni, the word was sent to the Portuguese rarities list on the morning of November 8th, and soon it was correctly identified as a Purple Gallinule. The place itself is managed by the city of Lisbon and is not freely accessible, but at the time they allowed people to see the bird almost without restrictions.
The bird was twitchable until the 11th of November, around lunchtime, when it was recovered by the Monsanto animal recovery center - LxCRAS.

It was the biggest twitch ever in Portugal and there were people coming from a lot of countries to see the bird. I'm not sure about the numbers but I would bet 200 or 300 people went to see the bird."

The first video was made by Josè Frade, next by Frederico Morais, and the last by Pedro Ramalho.
