Red-footed Booby

Sula sula

This bird was found at Lac de Sainte-Croix, Alpes de hautes on July 2nd 2011. The lake is 80km NE of Marseille and 90km NW of Nice, and the bird was often sitting on a paddleboat next to the entrance of the Verdon gorges, and it was often visible from the bridge over the Verdon.
On the morning of the Bastille Day July 14th the booby apparently flew south above the mountain ridges.
The bird was filmed by Antony "Forezbirder"

This was the third record in Europe. The first was seen at Bahía Dorada, Estepona, Malaga Spain on August 11th 2010 can be read here. The Second also was found in Spain, this time at Port i Badia de l'Estartit December 4th until December 23rd where it died on the Main central recovery center of Torreferrussa.
A report at Mølen, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway on June 29th 1985, was included on the Norwegian list, but was removed in 2002.
